Living the life in Gravenhurst

Kamchatka Krai

Kamchatka Krai

Kamchatka Krai, perhaps better known this side of the Pacific as the Kamchatka Peninsula. A nasty place. It is part of Siberia and also part of the Pacific rim, so an odd combination of desolate snowbound wastes, volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis. There are 160 volcanoes here. Most of them are inert, but 29 of them are still ert. In 1952 the Severo-Kurilsk earthquake, which reached magnitude 9.0, resulted in a tsunami which killed an estimated 10,000 to 15,000 people. And more recently, in 2020, there was a massive marine life die-off that made the news. So I just can't wait. Let's go sight seeing!
